When you think of growing food these days, it seems like most of the folks are starting permaculture or hydroponics systems. I like both of the methods, and believe that they are both far superior to traditional farming with soil, but each of them has drawbacks that make them completely impractical for the average person. With permacuture, you have to replace nearly 10% of the water each and every day, so that at the end of one month, you have both removed and added 3 times more water than there is in the entire system. Hydroponics is just expensive, and you would think that saltwater aquaponics would be a lot more popular for this reason. With saltwater aquaponics, you rely on the saltwater fish to nourish the crops you are growing, and don’t have to spend more than the cost of fish food to nourish the plants every day of the year.
